We faced some ups and downs in 2021. Here is a small selection for our year in review - the ABCs of 2021.
A is for anniversary: We celebrated 30 years in 2021 - 30 years of bringing you the news which matters.
B is for bronze: That was the colour of the Olympic medal Logan athlete Ash Moloney won in the decathlon at Tokyo. He was spurred on by teammate Cedric Dubler in the last event, the 1500 metres, in the historic result. Experts say he has a big future in the sport.
C is for COVID-19: Could the letter C be represented by anything else this past year? COVID changed our lives, with lockdowns, panic buying and arguments over vaccinations becoming constants of 2021.
D is for ducks: Oreo and Wobbles, the ducks, that is. The pair waddled into Jimboomba woman Jasmine McPhillips' life in September, and became best mates.
E is for Eats and Beats: The food and live music event served up some delicious treats at Rotary Park, Jimboomba, in April.
F is for flood: It was not as bad as in previous years, but La Nina brought rain and storms to Logan again this summer. The Logan River peaked a couple of metres below Maclean Bridge.
G is for gun: Police put a call out for more information in June after council workers found a US army gun by the side of the road at Mundoolun. The rusty gun was inside plastic wrapping.
H is for heroes: Residents rushed out to help the victims of a serious bus crash at Mundoolun on August 15. They offered blankets and hot water bottes after the crash which injured more than 20 people.
I is for Inland Rail: A constant source of angst for residents in western Logan this year was the proposed Inland Rail route. Locals fear their complaints will fall on deaf ears.
J is for Jingle Bells: There was a great turnout when Jimboomba hosted its first town Christmas party on December 10. More big events are planned in coming years.
K is for king of the mountain: Former Munruben boy Chaz Mostert took that title for the second time in a delayed Bathurst 1000 race in December. It capped off a fantastic weekend for the former Hills College student, who broke the lap record the day before in qualifying.
L is for Logan Martin: The Logan athlete won a historic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the freestyle BMX. It was the first time the event had been held at the Olympics.
M is for mannequin: A man faced more than $900 in fines during an unusual police stop at Slacks Creek in May. Alarmed residents called police when they spotted a leg hanging from the boot of the man's Ford Falcon. It turned out to be a mannequin He was also fined for bald tyres.
N is for no way at New Beith: Resident Les D'Elton said a planned footpath in the suburb was dangerous, with residents twice having to cross a 60km/h plan. Soon after our story, Logan City Council announced the footpath would stay on the same side of the road.
O is for old cars: Logan has plenty of car events every month, and this year, the Jimboomba Heritage Vehicle Club added another, with the introduction of that club's Cars and Coffee. Petrol heads gather on the second Sunday of each month.
P is for Pink Stumps Day: Jimboomba did it again back in February, with the town's amazing generosity again on show in raising an incredible $30,000 for the McGrath Foundation to fight breast cancer.
Q is for quite dark: That's how it was in Logan Entertainment Centre in June when a blackout halted proceedings during a council meeting. Mayor Darren was the only kind of Power in the building that day.
R is for roads: Always the subject of great debate, the city's roads copped it again this year, with locals slamming them in the RACQ's Red Spot Congestion Survey in March.
S is for snake: Tony and Brooke Harrison, from Gold Coast and Brisbane Snake Catchers, bagged a huge eastern brown at Beaudesert in November. The snake measured 1.9 metres and was among the largest the pair had ever caught.
T is for Tim Martin: The Jimboomba Redbacks AFL player booted 10 goals in the same game against Bribie Island in June.
U is for unacceptable: That was the eight-hour wait for an ambulance which Flagstone woman Lis Leauanae faced in November. She laid overnight in a yard with a broken ankle.
V is for vigil, a candlelight vigil: A sombre and poignant candlelight vigil for domestic violence victims was at Logan Entertainment Centre in May. Jimboomba and Beaudesert locals also raised more than $7000 for victims at a special afternoon tea.
W is for Watson: That's Kim Watson, who put on a batting masterclass for Jimboomba Bushrangers in November. He belted 200 from just 92 deliveries against Yarrabilba Cane Toads.
X is (almost) for excellent: That was the performance from Jimboomba's Little Athletics team at a Bundaberg carnival in October, winning a bag full of medals.
Y is for yippee: That's what a Logan man could have yelled after pocketing almost $100,000 playing Gold Lotto in July. The man had a new house and car on his wishlist.
Z is for zat's a wrap: 2021 has been a challenging extension to 2020 for a lot of people in our community and further afield. Thanks for sticking with us. Happy new year!
