DUCKS Wobbles and Oreo are waddling to their own tune like long-lost buddies at Jimboomba despite meeting only a few months ago.
The pair were brought together by 21-year-old student Jasmine McPhillips, who adopted Oreo after one of her beloved ducks died earlier this year.
Ms McPhillips, who has grown up with animals and birds of all varieties at her five-acre property, said the pair were best mates from the outset.
"One Saturday mum came into my room and said that on this Jimboomba page there was a duck waiting to be adopted," she said.
"That was such a sign because we had been looking everywhere and I could not find a single duck. I was willing to travel anywhere within reason to find one.
"Oreo popped up and he was based in Tamborine, which is literally around the corner."
Ms McPhillips said Oreo seemed shy when she picked him up but that all changed when he met Wobbles.
"I just really wanted to give wobbles a friend and make sure that I could also rescue a duck," she said.
"I have a video of them meeting. Wobbles has never been so excited.
"She literally came running over to Oreo and then he started talking back and he had not been speaking the whole time I had seen him.
"As soon as he saw Wobbles they were best mates and made their way off to the dam."
Ms McPhillips hand-raised Wobbles and a few other ducks when she was a child.
"I have pretty much grown up on five acres at Jimboomba with lots of different animals," she said.
"I was 10 when I got my first new duck. The clutch of eggs hatched in my room when it was really hot in the middle of summer.
"I hand-raised all those ducks and we sold a few of them, but I got to choose two of them to keep."
Oreo was adopted from charity 'Til The Cows Come Home, which rescues animals from agricultural farms.
Founder Donna Wild, who lives on Tamborine Mountain, said Ms McPhillips fell in love with Oreo at first sight.
"We were so delighted she wanted the opportunity to give Oreo the best home ever," she said.
"She described her ducks as pretty much being her children and her property is a duck's dream with luscious green grass, trees and a big dam for Oreo to swim in.
"We knew it was a perfect match because she cried when she saw him and now Oreo is in duck paradise, just as she promised."
