The New Year brings with it promises of change, new chapters and resolutions but for one family their year started off with the welcome addition of a baby girl. Ava Elizabeth McCaw was born at 3:18am on New Years Day to proud parents Frances and Paul, the first child to be brought into the world at Griffith Base Hospital in 2022. Weighing in at 2.79kgs, Ava arrived almost three weeks prior to her due date of January 19, bringing the New Year in with a bang for the McCaw family. "I remember waking up just before midnight on New Years Eve to go to the bathroom, hearing the fireworks and then the contraction pain started," Mrs McCaw told The Area News. After spending the next hour at home, Frances and Paul rushed to Griffith Base Hospital where baby Ava was born only a few hours later. Mrs McCaw said it was a hard but thankfully short labour. "I'm glad it's over," Mrs McCaw said. READ MORE According to Mr McCaw, whilst the family had joked about the possibility of a New Years Day baby, they didn't think it would actually happen. "I actually came home from work and joked to my wife, asking her to hold off having a baby just that night so I could have a drink and celebrate the New Year," Mr McCaw said. "But clearly that didn't happen!" After a few days in hospital, Ava came home on January 4th and has settled in her new home well. "Her brother Gordon absolutely loves her and wants to play and tickle her but she is just too little at the moment," Mrs McCaw said. "We are just so excited to have a little girl in our family."
