Excavator scoops worth $20,000 stolen from construction site

Yarrabilba Lendlease Estate has been targeted in the latest spate, with three excavator buckets, worth $20,000, stolen.

Jimboomba police said offenders used an excavator kept on site to haul each of the heavy scoops out, sometime between Friday and Tuesday this week. 

The excavator’s ignition was likely turned on with a screwdriver before the 1.2 metres buckets were loaded onto one or more vehicles and driven away.

Jimboomba police are also investigating the theft of white goods and kitchen appliances from two unfinished homes at Flagstone.

Thieves jemmied open the doors of two homes at Hyland Circuit, a few houses away from each other, before taking kitchen appliances between Friday, August 10 and Sunday, August 12.

It follows a 23-year-old Waterford man being charged earlier this month for allegedly taking items, like doors, flooring, sinks, tiles and piping from a Park Ridge construction site.

A Jimboomba police spokesperson said thefts from construction sites in the area were too frequent for comfort.

The spokesperson urged property owners and developers to lock premises and beef up security.

The advice was also extended to business owners, with 20 tyres pinched from a smash repairs workshop overnight. The site has been targeted before.

The spokesperson said police believe hoons might have been responsible.

Corner fencing, a padlock and chain were cut to gain entry.

Registration plates were also taken from car advertised for sale near the intersection of Waterford-Tamborine and Camp Cable roads earlier this week.

The police spokesperson said anti-theft screws to secure plates could be picked up from the station.
