MORE than 200 metres of underground copper was stolen from Logan Reserve overnight.
Police were called to Glen Road to investigate the theft of 230 metres of copper wire which occurred between 5pm, August 8 and 6.30am, August 9.
Jimboomba police officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said this followed a string of similar offences in Logan Reserve.
“There has been an increase in the theft of scrap metal and copper wiring in some of the new housing estates in Logan Reserve,” Senior Sergeant Waugh said.
“If anyone notices a considerable amount of scrap metal in the back of cars, please notify police or Crime Stoppers.”
According to a scrap metal price guide, copper wire typically sells for $1.50 to $2 per kilogram, pure copper sells for $4 to $6 per kilo and mixed copper wire can sell for $5 to $7 per kilo.
