GREENBANK wildlife carer Alma Searle has been left heartbroken after dogs jumped fences into her property and killed five joeys she had been looking after.
On Thursday, Ms Searle woke to find the kangaroos mauled to death in an enclosed rehabilitation area in her yard.
Cameras on her property had caught shots of two dogs, which Ms Searle believed to be domestic.
She pleaded with residents to heed Logan's rules and regulations around pet ownership.
"It's just so sad to have someone else's pet come in here and kill my animals," she said.
"Wildlife is protected. They're allowed to roam wherever they go.
"But there's rules for dogs and cats. It comes back to the humans - they're not doing the right thing."
Among the creatures killed was a mother with a tiny baby.
Another joey had not been seen since the dogs had come through the property.
Ms Searle said the incident was devastating.
"My whole life is these animals," she said.
"I get to bed at 3 o'clock sometimes and back up at 6 o'clock to start feeding them.
"I don't know what else I can do.
"I've done my best - the animals I've rehabilitated and released it's a pleasure. But when I go out in my pen and see my animals dead, it's a disaster."
A wildlife carer since 1995, Ms Searle said she had had more problems with domestic dogs than wild ones.
"Five years ago, we caught 15 dogs here and they'd killed some joeys," she said.
"I just don't know why people aren't abiding by their rules with dogs.
"All our wildlife's habitat is being taken away from them. They need more protection."
Pet owners in Logan are required to keep their animals in a fenced enclosure that stops them escaping and wandering.
Owners were responsible for ensuring their pet did not cause injury to a person or another animal.
