DISTURBING RSPCA figures have revealed more than 1500 animal cruelty complaints were reported in Logan last year.
Suburbs including Crestmead (89 cases), Beenleigh (89 cases), Marsden (69 cases), Browns Plains (68 cases), Jimboomba (65 cases) and Greenbank (52 cases) were among the top 50 suburbs to report animal cruelty.
There were 111 reports of animal cruelty in Kingston, which was the 11th highest reported in Queensland and the most in a Logan suburb.
Common complaints included insufficient food and water, poor living conditions, animals being tethered and not receiving exercise, abandonment, untreated injuries and animals living in poor condition.
RSPCA also received more than 1000 heat stress related calls where animals were either left inside a hot car or unable to access shade and water.
RSPCA Queensland spokesperson said there were 18,692 complaints registered last year, almost 800 more complaints than 2018.
"Obviously it's not good news," Mr Beatty said.
"You want the numbers to be decreasing not rising. Our inspectors are already operating under an enormous workload."
RSPCA animal ambulance officers had a busy year with 29,865 calls for support.
This comes as North Maclean wildlife carer Alma Searle said an Eastern Gray Kangaroo's throat was cut at Greenbank Road on December 10 last year.
Ms Searle said a knife was found near where the roo was lying dead on the side of the road.
"It is RSPCA and police who are called out to put the kangaroo to sleep from bad injuries," she said.
Caboolture was again listed as the worst suburb for animal cruelty cases with more than 200 complaints.
Mr Beatty said 335 cases went before Queensland courts and charges were laid under the Animal Care and Protection Act.
