A JIMBOOMBA writer launched her debut urban fantasy novel at Logan Village's Green Frog Hollow cafe on May 25.
Anita Pendreigh's Dark Conduits book is the first of two novels which explores the fate of nulls, who are the non-magical offspring of great mages and witches.
Nulls are traditionally pushed into the human world where they are fostered.
Ms Pendreigh said the novel follows the adventures of Indigo Kane, a young woman prone to anger and rage who seeks to challenge the status quo of the human world and magical realms.
"She is all about acting first and apologising later. It gets her into all sorts of trouble, all the time," she said.
Ms Pendreigh is a teacher at Canterbury College and has been writing professionally for five years.
She said her career inspired her to take up the vocation of novel writing.
"I understand the importance of reading, writing and the role that the school library plays in the support of students," she said.
"It was with these things in mind that I began my writing career.
"So many students say that they don't read so i see it as my job to create content and interesting stories in the hope that some day they will find the passion to pick up a book and begin a regular reading practice."
In the past, Ms Pendreigh has written children stories in support of Art4Agriculture Archibull competitions and run Word Nerds writing workshops for students aged from 12 to 17.
The Dark Conduits novel is aimed to appeal to older teens and young adults.
There are about 400 copies of the book available to be purchased from the website pendargons-pen.com.
