A WATERFORD West man has picked up a rubbish record.
Norman Chant took delivery of Logan City Council's first green bin, receiving number 0000001 in the rollout.
Mr Chant was among residents who opted in to the scheme before April 25.
Council is delivering bins across the city in time for collection services to start on Thursday July 1.
The service is part of council's new waste contract with Cleanaway.
Council said those who ordered a green bin after April 25 might not get it in time for the first collection.
Collections will happen fortnightly on the opposite week to recycling bins.
Mr Chant said it was an important initiative.
"It's important to keep recycling our green waste and this bin will now make that so much easier," he said.
Although Cleanaway's blue and white trucks will be a new look, all other aspects of wheelie bin collection remain unchanged for the majority of residents.
General waste bins will be collected on the same day each week as in the past with recycling bins emptied on that same day fortnightly.
Environment chair Jo Raven, said the green waste bin service would help reduce landfill.
"Having your own green waste bin is an easy and affordable way to dispose of garden waste." Cr Raven said.
"All the green waste collected will be composted into garden mulch which is great for the environment."
Green waste bins are offered in three sizes - a 140-litre bin ($46 per year), a 240L bin ($51 per year) or a 360L ($76 per year). Up to two bins per property can be requested.
A minimum commitment of 12 months is required. Charges are added to rates for homeowners. Tenants are also able to order by paying direct.
All green waste bins have a serial number.
Grass clippings, garden prunings, weeds, palm fronds and small branches can go in your green bin.
General waste, recyclables, food scraps, rocks, potting mix, soil, garden posts, hoses and ash must not be put into green bins.
Green waste put into general waste bins goes to landfill.
