"The child told mum that there was someone in the house," Sergeant Rob Duncan said.
The break-in happened about 7.20pm at the St Covet Court address at Glenlogan.
"This is why we say don't leave keys on benches and hooks," Sergeant Duncan said.
"Be security conscious at your property. Don't make it easy for them [thieves]."
A Volkswagen Golf was taken from another St Covet Court address earlier in the week.
Thieves stole the car sometime between 5pm on Monday and 8am on Tuesday.
It was found abandoned at Beaudesert, with minor damage to the rear bumper.
