Nominate a young hero now: Gabrielle Crotty won this year's Young Citizen of the Year award.

Nominations for the 2021 Young Citizen of the Year Award, which recognised the area's best young people, open on Monday.

Last year's winner, Gabrielle Crotty, encourages anyone who knows an outstanding young person to nominate them.

Gabrielle, who typically avoids the limelight, said she was honoured to be recognised this Australia Day.

Gabrielle, who is passionate about charity work, was nominated for her efforts with St Vincent de Paul, as well as organising a successful anti-bullying campaign for local youth.

High school teacher Linda Carroll, who nominated Gabrielle, said she was an amazing young woman who deserved to be noticed.

Gabrielle said she encouraged people to nominate their young heroes.

"I 100 per cent recommend nominating for Young Citizen of the Year," Gabrielle said.

"The opportunities, the doors it will open. If you don't nominate, you can't seize any of those opportunities."

The City of Logan Young Citizen of the Year Award is open to those under 27 who have made an outstanding contribution to their community.

Logan mayor Darren Power said the award, which is presented alongside the City's annual Citizen of the Year Award each Australia Day, was designed to encourage and recognise selfless Logan youth.

"There are so many community-minded young people in Logan who go above and beyond for others, often while also trying to kick-start dreams of their own," Cr Power said.

"These young people deserve our recognition and our thanks.

"I want to encourage those in Logan who know a charitable young person, to get in contact with council, and tell us their story.

"It is so important to have awards like this to encourage our young people and to ensure they feel valued and supported in serving our cty in the future."

Nominations close on December 7.
