LOGAN City Council's Carbon Reduction Strategy and Disaster Management Team were rewarded at the Local Government Managers Australia Queensland 2019 Awards for Excellence.
The council put forward six submissions to the judging panel and three progressed as finalists.
A Logan City Council spokesperson said the Disaster Management Team won the Community Shaping category for the Speaking their language to build disaster resilience program.
Under the program, council works in partnership with the community to help people with disability and different cultural backgrounds understand disaster risks.
Logan City Council CEO Silvio Trinca said it was important to have a clear message which can be understood by all sections of the community.
"Everyone deserves to feel safe but in a city as diverse as ours, sometimes our message gets lost in translation or simply goes unheard," he said.
"These resources have been carefully designed to ensure that the information is straightforward but also effective when it comes to helping people prepare for, respond to, and recover from natural disasters."
The Carbon Reduction Strategy and Action Plan won the Sustainability category.
Logan City Council has set an ambitious goal to be carbon neutral by 2022 through the use of renewable energy technology including solar power and delivery of carbon offsets.
Logan City Council acting CEO Silvio Trinca said the awards were a strong endorsement of council's priorities.
"These awards of excellence are just another example of the quality services council is delivering every day to our community," he said.
