All-terrain vehicle joins Jimboomba Police fleet

Logan City Council funded the $22,000 vehicle which is the eighth to be distributed within the Logan Police District.

Other stations equipped with an ATV include Loganholme, Browns Plains, Beenleigh, Crestmead and Logan Central.

Jimboomba Police Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Peter Waugh said the ATV would support the work of police across the board.

"There are (housing) developments going through the whole area but we intend to use the vehicle in a number of operational matters including in a off-road capacity, at shopping centres and for traffic operations," he said.

"This is a great opportunity for police and the council to work together. It will increase our policing ability and help us get to other areas. There is also a great opportunity for community engagement with this type of vehicle."

Browns Plains Police have used their ATV to patrol bushland areas which have been targeted by illegal dumpers.

Last year, Browns Plains Police charged a 45-year-old Inala man for illegally dumping waste when he bogged his ute and trailer in close proximity to a pile of rubbish including a fridge.

Senior Sergeant Waugh said it would help police crack down on the issue of trail bikes trespassing on some people's properties.

"We want people to know you can't ride in (private) areas and we will be patrolling," he said.

"There are designated trail bike paths and people need to ride there."

Logan City Council's community services manager Nick McGuire said Logan City Council had a unique relationship with Logan police stations.

"We have a strong focus around community safety," he said.

"The partnership we have with Queensland Police is so important to improve community safety and build up people's feelings around safety.

"Tools like (the ATV) are one of the examples of how we can develop that partnership."
