Teacher Sue Taylor made the case for the Transitions Library after reviewing AECD data with a view to making the change from early education to primary school less confronting.
Parent volunteer Larissa Neilson teamed up with Ms Taylor to make the program a reality.
The program includes a calicho bag with a puppet and book touching on themes like bullying, friendship, starting school and worrying.
Ms Taylor said transition anxiety was different for each student and the program was tailored to suit different student’s needs.
“We have used (the program) informally before the launch to support transition visits to school and identify what s on children’s minds,” she said.
“We get them talking about how they think school might look, feel or sound.
“Anxiety is different for some students and we can see what book suits which student.”
The program is also designed to encourage discussion between parents and kids to address any issues leading up to school.
Informal visits have been made to schools including Jimboomba State School and Flagstone State School.
