TEACHING is more than just a job, it is a passion.
This is the philosophy of Flagstone C&K early childhood teacher Sue Taylor, who has been declared the 4280 postcode’s most loved teacher following a Professionals Jimboomba social media campaign.
Teachers from Flagstone State School, Flagstone State Community College, Jimboomba State School, Hills College, Emmaus College and various kindergarten centres have received nomination certificates after a strong community response to the initiative.
Ms Taylor said she was in tears after hearing the news from the Professionals Jimboomba team last week.
“I was speechless...I was honoured to be nominated. It was lovely of them to run a competition to recognise the contribution of teachers,” Ms Taylor said.
Ms Taylor said she was still in touch with grade six Flagstone students who were in her care in their younger years.
“We have had an amazing relationship with parents and kids from the time we started...we still have grade six kids coming back that were part of our first cohort,” she said.
“They will be able to graduate at the end of this year and they still want hugs and help us set up in the morning.”
Ms Taylor said it was vital to set a strong foundation in early years to build on in primary and secondary education.
“Early childhood is not merely a job, it is something I am fully invested in,” she said.
“I philosophically believe in well developed relationships to help children learn and reach their full potential.
“We develop lots of extraordinary thinking skills. Parents say they are impressed that we can help kids at a young age independently solve problems and think out of the box.”
Ms Taylor has taught at C&K Flagstone for seven years and has been an early childhood teacher since 1995.
Belinda Haines from Emmaus College was the runner up for the 4280 postcode’s most loved teacher award.
