Shannon Girard – The Greens
The Greens have a solid platform of policies and initiatives in this election to correct the political system that is rigged to benefit corporations, not people.
Almost 40% of your power bill is retail charges.
The Greens will move to bring the retail or billing side of the electricity market back into public hands and in turn, save almost $400 a year on everyday Queenslanders’ power bills!
This will also create 5,500 jobs every year by investing $15 billion over five years in building publicly-owned clean energy and storage.
The large energy companies have made huge profits from you just for sending a piece of paper!
We’ll fix the Scenic Rim’s limited public transport system.
We’ll invest from the Greens Proposed $10 billion Public Infrastructure Bank to provide more frequent, cheaper public transport from the Boonah to Ipswich, Beaudesert to Logan and a service for Tamborine Mountain.
We’ll also provide more connections to develop more connected communities.
This will help to cut down on commuting times but also provide more independence for our elderly and disabled people as they will be able to easily access community services.
Let’s take back control of our state and build a future for all of us.
Carolyn Buchan – ALP
Carolyn lives on a property in Beaudesert and is a thoroughbred breeder.
She regularly attends race meetings, rodeos in the region and equestrian events.
Carolyn has holistic understanding of the agricultural industry and the challenges the local industries are facing.
Carolyn studied agriculture during high school and has lived on and managed large acreage properties.
She completed a two-year diploma in business and justice administration at tafe and worked part time for the Department of Justice at Southport Courthouse.
She then continued to work as an assistant law librarian at Bond University for several years while completing further studies and graduated in 2003.
She worked as a community corrections officer and fulfilled frontline government positions including; child safety officer, court co-ordinator and administration officer with the DPP.
Carolyn was admitted as a solicitor in 2009 and worked as a private practice solicitor, including representing many clients for Legal Aid.
She is an accomplished advocate representing clients in courts, tribunals and conferences on a broad range of legal issues.
She is committed to focusing on regional jobs, roads, health and promoting the regions untapped tourism potential and above all being available to and listening to the people of the Scenic Rim.
Jon Krause – LNP
In 2014, I was part of the LNP government that restored maternity and other services to the Beaudesert Hospital after years of Labor neglect, and I’ll continue to fight for better services at Beaudesert Hospital.
The LNP will cut the cost of living by freezing family car registration, saving families up to $200.
We did it before, we’ll do it again.
For Seniors Card holders, we’ll halve the cost of drivers licence renewals and offer free off-peak Translink transport.
We’re shaking up the electricity system by cutting the amount Energex can charge you for your power (Labor’s secret electricity tax), saving a typical family up to $160 per year from July next year.
This change will also benefit business users, and we’re offering a $1400 rebate on irrigation bills for farmers who use tariffs 62, 65 and 66.
We have committed an extra $60 million for Mount Lindesay Highway upgrades.
Together with existing projects, this means $100 million will be spent on the road in the next 3 years or so.
Passing lanes between Beaudesert and Jimboomba, a package of repairs on the highway from Beaudesert to the NSW border and congestion busting works around Jimboomba will be priority for this funding.
Rod Smith – One Nation
Many people I talk to about the issues mention the things that they would like to see happen; the highway fixed, health services enhanced to cope with ever increasing population and an aging population, more services, development controlled.
I agree with all of those things but the first thing I think we need is hope.
Hope that things can get back to normal, hope for a sense of security and wellbeing, hope that someone is in charge who is strong enough to bring change for the better and can bring about prosperity.
The meat-hook reality we see is that households, farms, businesses are doing it tough; battling ever higher demands for money for electricity, taxes, fees, rates, insurance, rego, red tape and compliance - while incomes have gone nowhere for years.
I see many people despairing because they feel they have no power over their situation.
Community consultation has become a spin and marketing exercise for decisions that have already been made outside of the electorate.
By supporting One Nation you can send a powerful message that you want to be included in any decision that affects you.
