Since January, the Jimboomba Times has been compiling a list of traffic crashes which have occurred on the Mount Lindesay Highway between Browns Plains and Woodhill.
The stats are being released in the wake of yet another fatal traffic crash on the Mount Lindesay Highway and today being Fatality Free Friday, with the reminder to stay safe on our roads.
This list is taken from police reports, towing information as well as Queensland ambulance and Queensland fire and emergency reports.
Through the data it can be seen in that in just under six months there have been 29 crashes recorded.
Of these, not only have there been many serious injuries but also three tragic losses of life.
Taking to social media after the most recent fatality in Woodhill, Samantha Grundy said she understood bad things happened everywhere but thought this road was worse than any other.
“AGAIN!!! This road is the worst of them all how many more people are to be injured and killed before changes happen on this road!!!,” she wrote.
Fellow commentor Chris Wallis said he agreed with other social media users that drivers needed to be more vigilant and slow down.
“But if the road was built to suit the needs of the booming region then the chances of those people paying less attention to their driving would likely have less chance of being involved in fatal incidents like this,” he wrote.
“It is time this state government stood up and showed some initiative… the Mount Lindesay Highway needs action NOW!”
In this years federal budget an extra $2.5 million was allocated to the joint state and federal highway upgrade funding – a $20 million co-agreement pledge.
On March 25, the timeline details for the North Maclean Safety Improvement project were released by the Department of Transport and Main Roads.
The North Maclean upgrades were one of five road projects to receive funding from the state and federal government’s half-a-billion dollar roads package for Queensland.
