The Women of the World (WOW) Festival is coming to Logan on July 15, and local women will take centre stage.
Joining the roster is Logan Reserve resident Grace Edward, who will deliver an engaging session when she reflects on her life being caught between two cultures.
An Abegi and Teremo woman from South Sudan who grew up in Kenya, Ms Edward will sit on the Being a Woman panel at WOW, and says she has reflected on her unique circumstances.
"As I've prepared for my guest speaker role, I have been looking more closely at my journey to becoming a woman, especially through my cultural lens," she said.
Ms Edward will draw on her lived experiences, which include living in a refugee camp before being granted a humanitarian visa in 2003, and have been explored through the numerous theatre productions she has directed and produced.
City Lifestyle coordinator Laurie Koranski says the two-day festival will challenge stereotypes and promote insightful discussion.
"Stereotypes about women will be challenged at WOW Logan which seeks to break down barriers and provide a welcoming space for ideas to be explored to promote equality, diversity and positive change," Cr Koranski said.
"Roles and expectations of womanhood also will be highlighted and conversations sparked on topics of vital importance to local women and it will be wonderful to see these important discussions taking place.
"I encourage people to head along to WOW Logan to experience the amazing program on offer for the 2022 festival."
Nina Taukiri, a Bannockburn resident and the Queensland Maori Society Executive Secretary, will also take part in WOW with The Healing Space.
A women's only space, the Healing Space runs from 10am-5pm and will allow women and girls to experience healing practices from other cultures.
"Healing and wellbeing practises help to settle and calm your energy enabling clarity and healing and we communicate and function more effectively from this space," Ms Taukiri said.
Other events include interactive workshops and a mentoring program for students from high schools around Logan, which will kick off WOW on July 15.
Bookings for the Women of the World Festival are essential, and can be made on the Logan Arts Website, while the full program of events can be found on the WOW Australia website.
