The Mustangs Division 3 men had their work cut out for them playing the West Inala Panthers, and Blake Virtue earned himself Man of the Match honours.
Shifted out of his regular position in the second row, Virtue adapted to an unfamiliar position and was able to deliver some strong carries out of the Mustangs' half, in a match plagued by dropped balls.
Eager to make hay while the sun wasn't shining, the Panthers opened the scoring in the sodden Saturday match and put 14 points on the board before the Mustangs made a single try.
Taking advantage of a penalty tap, Mar-Ryan Mulitalo opened the scoring for the Mustangs when he crashed over the line.
Mulitalo's efforts were followed up by an inside ball from Jayden Pipe to lock forward Dorian Yates, which narrowed the Panthers' lead to 14-12 in the closing moments of the first half.
The second half got off to a slow start, and despite West Inala starting the half with just 12 players, neither team was able to seize the advantage and score for the first 20 minutes.
As the clock ran down the Panthers made two late tries, extending their lead to 22-12 in what proved to be a difficult wet weekend.
The Division 2 Men's team had a bye round, while Hayley Anderson earned herself Player of the Match in the Reserve Grade Women's team's 38-4 defeat against the Pine Rivers Bears.
The men's teams have a bye round this weekend before playing Redlands at home on July 16, while the women have a rematch against the Pine Rivers Bears at home.
