Every year the Queensland countryside rings with the sound of hundreds of motors, as cars better suited to being museum pieces take part in the Variety Bash.
This year, Logan Village Lions Club will send a team to the event to help raise funds for the children's charity and distribute items to schoolchildren in need throught Queensland's remote communities.
The team, consisting of Lions Bob Downs, Kaye Downs, Peter Boyd and Leonie Slender, will journey from Winton to Yeppoon, visiting Kynuna, Cloncurry, Boulia, Bedourie, Birdsville, Windorah, Tambo and Dingo along the way.
It is set to be a ten-day trek, and club Bash Convenor Peter Boyd said the cause was worth the arduous journey.
"We just wanted to raise some money for the kids," Mr Boyd said.
The Lions Club found their car, a 1984 Holden Statesman de Ville nicknamed "DV", in a paddock and Mr Boyd said the team had spent thousands of dollars out of pocket to return it to a driveable state for last year's event.
"The boys found the car in a paddock," he said.
"It was pretty sorry looking when we found it."

Each team member helped with the restoration, and team mechanic Bob Downs donated time in his Logan Village workshop to get the car back on the road.
Although the car ran well during the 2021 Bash, the decades-old transmission broke on the journey home and Mr Boyd said DV ended up completing its trip on the back of a tow truck.
"We got a tow truck back to Logan Village free of charge," he said.
"Everybody got behind us."
Since then, the car had again been given an overhaul by Mr Downs, and the event convenor said he was confident DV would get them over the finish line.
"She's still a bit of a beast, but she'll get us there," Mr Boyd said.
Running a vintage V8 is not cheap, even without this year's high fuel prices, and the club is looking for sponsors to help fund the trip, as participants pay out of pocket for vehicle running costs, food and accommodation.
The club was grateful that several sponsors from 2021 are once again supporting their efforts and any new sponsorship enquiries can be made by contacting Peter Boyd on 0413 737 730.
The team is also collecting donations for Variety, and these can be made on the 2022 Variety Bash website here.
