The Queensland Ambulance Service is urging caution on during the winter school holidays, as many families set off on long road trips.
Senior Paramedic Dermot Kelly said motorists should prepare for increased traffic on roads as people travel to holiday destinations.
"As it is school holidays, expect there to be more traffic on the roads, leave extra time to get to your destination," Mr Kelly said.
"The roads are going to be busier and if you're driving in metro or suburban areas just watch out for kids on the pavement and riding their bicycles.
"They won't necessarily be watching for cars, so we need to watch out for them."
The appeal for cautious driving comes at the end of a week where crews across Queensland responded to several serious and fatal crashes, including one in the Jimboomba area.

Other incidents included a two-vehicle crash on the corner of Green Road and the Mount Lindesay Highway in Boronia Heights which resulted in a woman being taken to hospital with a head injury late on Thursday June 22.
Paramedics also responded to a crash in Tamborine where a woman hit a tree on the Waterford-Tamborine and Beaudesert-Beenleigh Roads at 3.25am on June 23. The woman was taken to hospital with significant leg injuries.
Mr Kelly said many of these accidents were preventable, and although vehicles are safer than they have ever been drivers still needed to take care.
"The saddest part is that 99% of road traffic crashes these days are preventable," he said.
"Most of them are caused by speed, lack of concentration or not driving to weather and road conditions or being aware of your surroundings
"Thankfully, because modern cars are the way they are, the chances of loss of life are reducing as long as people are wearing seat belts and doing the right thing."
The paramedic also reminded motorists about the 'fatal five' behaviours which are the most common causes of road crashes.
"Remember to wear your seatbelt, check your speed, drive to the speed limit, avoid drink and drug driving, don't drive while fatigued and don't be distracted while driving by mobile phones," Mr Kelly said.
"Enjoy the school holidays and your time with family and stay safe out there."
