Jimboomba Police urge safe driving these school holidays

Sergeant Rob Duncan said the message from police was the same they'd delivered several times in the past, but residents needed a reminder.

"Obey the road rules," Sergeant Duncan said.

"They're there to keep us all safe. They might be updated every now and then but the basics remain the same."

Sergeant Duncan also said that motorists should remember that the road rules were the minimum standard for safe driving, and drivers should always be alert to changing conditions.

"Drive to road conditions," he said.

"The only person in control of you being a safe driver is the person behind the wheel. Even if you're involved in a crash that's not your fault you should reflect on how you could avoid it in the future.

"You can still be a dangerous driver even while following the legislation, particularly during bad weather."

Traffic is set to increase as families travel during the school holidays, and the police sergeant said motorists should give their cars a quick inspection before setting off on any long journeys.

"People need to be conscious of the school holidays starting soon," Sergeant Duncan said.

"Look at your car, ask yourself if it's roadworthy.

"There are things we all miss, like checking your tyres, so make sure everything is ship-shape and ready to go."
