Cedar Vale roller skater Gabriella Hurst is going from strength to strength, finishing at the top of the podium in Figure Skating at the recent state championships at Mount Warren last weekend.
This is the latest in a long line of successes for the young skater, who won a trio of medals in February's qualifying round and was ranked 2nd in the country last year.
Although she is proficient in a number of styles, last weekend Ms Hurst competed in just the Figure Skating event, with her strong performance earning her gold in the Juvenile category.
Saturday's event wasn't all smooth sailing for the young champion as her medal has gone missing, and her mother Elaine said she was in a very precarious position at one point in the competition.
"For the one event, Gabriella had to skate round in between two marked circles," Elaine said.
"At one point in the last circle she came unstuck, and if she put her foot down she would have been instantly disqualified. She kept going, and wobbled her way to victory on one leg."
Despite this minor upset, Elaine said her daughter had performed brilliantly as she enters the national-level competition as the top-ranked Juvenile Figure Skater in Queensland.
"She absolutely smashed it," she said.
"We're very proud of her, she's accomplished a lot for a 13-year-old."
The young skater said she was focused on the next round of competitions in July, and has her sights set improvement.
"I'm proud of where I am on placings, but I'm ready to get training and do better for Nationals," Hurst said.
