Jimboomba Olympian Ashley Moloney made his indoor athletics debut over the weekend, achieving a bronze-medal finish in the Heptathlon and setting National and Oceania records in the process.
The young athlete built upon his strong performance at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games, where he won bronze in the Decathlon, scoring 6344 points and earning another global bronze medal.
Spokesperson for Jimboomba Athletics Club Peta Smith said Moloney's performance deserved praise, as it was not only his debut at an indoor competition but also in the Heptathlon.
"Ashley was always a prestigious talent, and to see him doing so well only a few years after he was in Little Athletics is a fantastic result," she said.
"We're very proud of him, he's worked hard to get where he is."
Alongside breaking regional records Moloney also set new personal bests in the Pole Vault and Long Jump, all the while battling a knee injury which meant he had to pull out of the High Jump event.
Ms Smith said she hoped more residents would lend their support to the rising star, as there were more major competitions on the horizon for Moloney.
"It would be great if everyone could get behind him," she said.
"He has a very big year coming up with the Commonwealth Games and the World Championships in July."
