Upper Room Crisis Care Centre has been given notice to vacate its Estramina Road premises when its current lease expires on April 28, with no option to extend.
It has been a turbulent time for the Regents Park-based charity, with coordinator Cathy Bunn explaining that the charity's future at its current location had been on the brink for some time.
"Five times we've been given our marching orders and then it's changed," Mrs Bunn said.
Mrs Bunn also explained that the charity also had to contend with several incidents of vandalism in recent years, including recent damage to one of the building's doors.
"Nearly every window on the property has been broken.
"A couple of weeks ago, we had two boys kick on the door while we were in here. They said they thought it looked abandoned," she said.
Although the organisation may be left without a premises, Mrs Bunn was not prepared to give up on helping those in need, who often came to the charity after being turned away from other organisations.
"Over Christmas, a lot of places closed down for three weeks and those needy, hungry people had to put their bellies on hold.
"We were getting lots of people ring us up for food parcels which were saying other organisations suggested they come to us because they were closed. Unreal.
"That's why I've stuck with it," she said.
Instead, Mrs Bunn hopes that the charity will be able to find a suitable storage facility and a new location to hold its monthly sales and cent auctions that also function as social activities for area residents.
"We have a lot of people who like to come along and meet people. So people look forward to it.
"The last one here will be in April. Then I thought I'd approach the council or the schools to see if they had a room we could hold it in. That'll be another expense.
"The object is to have what we need stored, still do sausage sizzles at Harvey Norman and Bunnings, and still have contact with people if they need food," she said.
Upper Room Crisis Care is holding a clearance sale from 8am this Saturday, February 12, at 10 Estramina Road Regents Park.
