A SEVERE thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Scenic Rim, with the Weather Bureau warning of damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain.
Storms are expected to affect Boonah by about 1.35pm. Damaging winds, large hailstones and heavy rainfall that may lead to flash flooding are likely.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services is urging people to take precautions, including moving cars undercover and away from trees, securing loose outdoor items and never driving through floodwaters.
People should seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees, avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm and stay clear of fallen powerlines.
The Weather Bureau detected severe storms on the radar northwest of Toowoomba shortly after 1pm.
Skies over Logan have gradually darkened since noon.
The next severe weather warning is due to be issued at 2.15pm.
