Raby Bay couple fast-tracks wedding to beat Queensland's latest lockdown

Nicolette and Sam Brewer were getting ready for their big day when news broke that Redlands was headed for a COVID-19 lockdown.

"Wedding manager at The Courthouse Carol Balfour called me and asked me what we wanted to do... We agreed to move it forward and she made it happen," Ms Brewer said.

"We didn't expect a lockdown, but Sam and I agreed it was important to just get married anyway."

Vendors, hair stylist and makeup artist sprang into action and rallied to bring the wedding forward to noon from the original time at 3.30pm.

Determined to still get hitched, the Brewers remained calm and moved forward with a plan - and with 66 people on the guest list, this was no mean feat.

"My two bridesmaids contacted guests and Sam called family... only nine guests couldn't make it.

"The list was originally 84 guests, but some could not fly in from New Zealand, WA and Melbourne," Ms Brewer said.

The couple have been engaged since February and had been planning for their special day for the past three months.

Owner of The Courthouse restaurant Mary Gibb said the Brewers outlook was positive and loving.

"We are thrilled the wedding could go ahead, and only for the hyper vigilance of announcements were we able to respond as quickly and mobilise everybody as quickly, from the couples wedding suppliers, to our teams of kitchen and service staff," she said.

Ms Gibb said the wedding party received support from family and friends, but also a random group of people who had gathered for breakfast near the water at the end of Paxton Street, who jumped in to help set up the garden.

"We had our reception and got to have a first dance and speeches until we had to shutdown.

"Plans for our honeymoon on Straddie have been put on hold for now," Ms Brewer said.
