SUPPORTERS of the Beaudesert pig and calf sales have invited visitors and residents who would not normally attend the fortnightly sales to turn up for the final sale at 11am on March 22.
This comes after Scenic Rim Regional Council voted to appeal the recently acquired heritage status of the saleyards and decided not the renew the current lease, which expires on March 31.
Scenic Rim businessman Nathan Clarke said he would be attending the event and hoped that others would get behind it too.
"We're just trying to rally up some support," he said.
Peter Hayes from Hayes & Co which has run the pig and calf sales for the past two decades, met with supporters at Helen Street today.
"As you know, this will the last pig and calf sale... we wish you all to come along and see the end of an era which has been very much through the Scenic Rim and Beaudesert areas for over 100 years," he said.
"So please come along and support your yards and wish it a final tribute."

Mayoral candidate Tom Sharp, who today told the Beaudesert Times that he would take another shot at the mayor's job in the 2024 local government election, said the sales were an important part of Beaudesert's heritage.
"Even if you've never been ... this has been part of the community for 100 years, which means it's a part of you," he said.
"So come and be part of history in the making, support Peter, support the saleyards, support the community."
