WITH Jimboomba police reporting a rise in speeding during the COVID-19 lockdown, Queensland's 2020 Road Safety Week will serve as a timely reminder for residents to take care on the roads.
From August 24, police will be targeting traffic offences and the fatal five, in high visibility patrols.
Sergeant Lawrie Catterson said Jimboomba had seen an increase in speeding after COVID-19 restrictions came into force.
"We'll be targeting traffic offences coming into the September school holidays so we can reduce the number of crashes in Jimboomba," he said.
Logan Village Yarrabilba police officers have seen a rash of recent speeding offences, with one driver allegedly caught going nearly 50km/h over the limit.
Local police will also be out and about early next week on a community policing operation, chatting with the community at local business areas in Jimboomba, Flagstone and Greenbank.
They will be at Flagstone on Wednesday to coincide with the opening of the region's new shopping centre on Bushman Drive.
