FOR many residents, nightmare bushfires in the south-east last summer will be front of mind as fire season rolls around again.
Logan was spared the damage of last season's bushfires, which swept through parts of nearby Scenic Rim, destroying thousands of hectares of land.
But Environment Committee chair Jon Raven said no one should underestimate Logan's bushfire potential.
"Logan has more than 900 parks and reserves and a lot of semi-rural and rural properties so the risk of fires is high," Cr Raven said.
Logan City Council has conducted five hazard reduction burns covering 38 hectares across the city, including at Greenbank and Munruben.
It was up from three last year.
Cr Raven said favourable conditions have allowed council to conduct more burns this winter.
"But it's important to remember that (hazard reduction burns) only reduce the bushfire risk, they certainly don't eliminate it," he said.
Burns are also planned for Lance Road Park at Greenbank.
Residents will be advised of future prescribed burns on council's Facebook page.
Following last year's blazes, council also budgeted $230,000 to create 26 kilometres of extra bushfire breaks across the city this year.
Meanwhile, Energex urged property owners to take extra precautions while conducting controlled burns near the electricity network.
Queensland's bushfire season traditionally starts in August.
Energex area manager Graham Burke said landholders needed to be aware of the dangers associated with power poles being damaged or destroyed by fire.
"We've had significant damage in areas right across Queensland the past two fire seasons," Graham said
"Fires on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast significantly impacted our customers and the poles and wires that supply them with power - some for up to a week.
"Just as concerning is a pole that is only partially burnt because it could be significantly weakened and fail at a later date, bringing down high-voltage wires."
