DESPITE the cancellation of this year's Ekka, Jimboomba will still get a slice of carnival fun, with a fair coming to town this weekend.
The Queensland State Fair will be held over two weekends on August 13 to 16 and 21 to 23, at the corner of Johanna Street and the Mount Lindesay Highway.
Chambers Flat man Jimmy Brookes from Royal Seating Hire said there were more than 10 family businesses involved in the event, many of which were from Logan.
He said the carnival industry had been hit hard by COVID-19 and organisers had worked hard to ensure the event would be safe for attendees.
"A lot of ride and amusement operators are out of work, and we've been out of work since around mid March when this all started," he said.
"We were the first ones to lose our income and probably some of the last ones to get it back. This is the first event we've done (since COVID-19).
"We've been talking for a few years about having an annual Ekka-time carnival at Jimboomba but this has sped it up a bit."
Visitors can expect fair staples like rides including a Ferris wheel and dodgem cars, as well as sideshow alley and food offerings including dagwood dogs and fairy floss.
Fireworks are scheduled for Friday night.
Mr Brookes said the event would follow the COVIDSafe plan from the Australian Amusement, Leisure and Recreation Association.
"If this was a normal carnival it would be a free-for-all but things are a lot different," he said.
"We've worked for months on a COVID plan to make sure everyone's safe and we operate properly.
"Numbers will limited to 500 patrons at any on time."
Social distancing measures would be in place and all visitors would need to sign in.
"Staying safe is everyone's responsibility - if you're feeling unwell, don't come," Mr Brookes said.
The event was originally scheduled for last weekend but had been postponed after three women returned to the south-east from Melbourne.
"We decided it was best to postpone and wait for test results to come back. Now we're full steam ahead," Mr Brookes said.
"I think people are starving for entertainment and if you do it in a safe way, all the better."
