THE federal government has passed legislation listing the Mount Lindesay Highway as part of the National Land Transport Network and increasing the chances for federally funded upgrades.
The legislation includes the Mount Lindesay Highway from its junction with the Logan Motorway at Parkinson to its junction with Bromelton Street at Beaudesert as well as Bromelton Street and the Beaudesert Boonah Road to the logistics facility on Beaudesert Boonah Road at Bromelton.
Wright MP Scott Buchholz said the inclusion of the Mount Lindesay Highway on the National Land Transport Network was great news for the Scenic Rim..
"Clearly there are growing demands on this road network and the Federal government acknowledges that, in this recent addition to the National Land Transport Network. Absolutely, there is more work to be done," he said.
"I'll be fighting to deliver a better Mount Lindesay Highway, as I have always done, to get residents home sooner and safer.
"The Australian government has a proud record of delivering life-saving upgrades on the Mount Lindesay Highway. In the past, we have committed $16 million of a $20 million project, to fix the Greenbank interchange, saving lives.
"As part of our commitment to better roads at the last election, to bust congestion our government committed $30 million to the Mount Lindsay corridor. As a result of this inclusion on the National Network, I trust the state government will work with the federal government to increase funding on this vital road corridor.
"In our most recent road stimulus package, we committed $324.34 million of $414.65 million to get shovel ready projects, such as the Tamborine Oxenford Road upgrade underway and deliver urgent road safety upgrades, on corridors such as Beaudesert-Beenleigh Road.
"This builds on our significant road transport investments across the region.
"Our funding announcements to date have demonstrated we're committed to working productively, to deliver our fair share of road upgrades on this vital corridor, in a significant growth area."
Scenic Rim MP Jon Krause said adding the highway to the national network would help get more federal assistance for the road.
"This is a great step for the Mount Lindesay Highway and more jobs at Bromelton," he said.
"Clearly there are a lot of places where upgrades and improvements are needed.
"The federal government has in recent years spent almost as much on the highway as the state government.
"Make no mistake, the Labor party has a lot to answer for on the Mount Lindesay HIghway over 25 of the past 30 years in government.
'They didn't even have a project ready when $416 million in federal funds was available, or they could have used some of that on the highway."
