A spokeswoman for Queensland Fire and Emergency Services said a crew of firefighters were asked to attend in case there was a need for technical ropes rescue. She said they arrived about 1pm but no retrieval operation was carried out yesterday due to the terrain, weather and nightfall conditions.
The spokeswoman said the accident involved two people, one of whom was confirmed deceased and a second who was walked down with ropes.
SES volunteers were also in attendance.
A Queensland Police Service spokesman said officers responded to a call about 11am and reported a 32-year-old man had fallen to his death.
The spokesman said rescue crews would be on Mount Barney today to retrieve the body and there were no suspicious circumstances.
He said the man's family had been notified and police would prepare a report for the coroner.
