A local councillor hopes that the upcoming Olympics and a newly-announced swimming school for the area will combine to produce the next big sporting talent.
Division 11 councillor Natalie Willcocks has welcomed news of the Splash Swim School coming to Flagstone in August.
The school, which will be located off Homestead Drive, will feature a 25 metre heated indoor pool and parking.
Construction of the facility is underway. It marks a return to the leisure industry for developer, Stockwell.
Its Splash business has been operating for more than 25 years.
Splash's brand ambassador and spokeswoman, Tracy Stockwell, is a triple Olympic gold medallist and five-time world record holder.
She captained the US women's swim team at the 1984 Los Angeles games, winning three golds in medley events.
She had qualified to compete four years prior but the US boycotted the 1980 Moscow games.
Cr Willcocks said she hoped more champions could be produced at the Flagstone facility.
"With the Olympics coming up, it will be great to have the facility in Division 11," she said.
"It's not just a win for Flagstone, it's a win for the division. I think it's terrific they are coming on board, and so soon."
Another group of swimmers like Greenbank State School star Mollie O'Callaghan would be ideal, Cr Willcocks said.
Mollie had already swum for Australia at the 2019 World Junior Championships.
The centre will be operating in time for the Tokyo Olympics, which have been postponed until 2021 because of COVID-19.
"With the Olympics coming up, it will be great," Cr Willcocks said.
The school will focus on water safety and learning to swim programs.
Mrs Stockwell said that providing the service in a convenient location for locals would be a positive outcome for the Flagstone community.
The centre joins 22 specialty shops, nine professional suites and a petrol station at the Flagstone precinct, including a Woolworths supermarket.
It will offer more than 400 parking spaces, with about 150 undercover.
