Logan City Council is expected to formally reject a pay-rise at the next general meeting, in a move it says is in solidarity with local families under pressure due to COVID-19.
The councillors voted unanimously in this morning's City Governance Committee meeting to reject the pay-rise which was due to start in the next financial year.
The pay-rise is awarded to all level 7 councillors, and approved by the Local Government Remuneration Commission.
Mayor Darren Power moved to amend item 8.2 on the meeting this morning.
His recommendation was that the mayor, deputy Mayor and councillors reject the proposed wage increase for 2020/2021, awarded to all Level 7 Councillors, approved by the Local Government Remuneration Commission in solidarity with Logan families who are currently under enormous financial stress from the COVID-19 restrictions, in accordance with section 159 of the Local Government Act 2009.
The matter will be considered at the next general council meeting on June 17.
