FEDERAL MP Scott Buchholz has called for Scenic Rim and Logan residents to recognise their unsung heroes as the sixth annual Community Contribution Awards open for nominations.
Mr Buchholz said last year's recipients were nominated for going above and beyond in service to their communities, and given the challenges the region has had to overcome in the past 12 months, there would certainly be many unsung heroes deserving of recognition.
"During these rough times, drought, fire and pandemic, our community has been supported by many great volunteers and community heroes," Mr Buchholz said.
"I established these awards to recognise the amazing work done by local residents in a variety of ways including with local charities, sporting clubs, service organisations and community groups.
"The Wright Community Contribution Awards are an important way for our community to say thank you and let local volunteers know how much we appreciate their efforts to make our community a better place to live."
Mr Buchholz said that COVID-19 was having an impact on the ability to recruit volunteers and to participate in face-to-face activity, but many were pushing on in a COVIDSafe manner.
"Our volunteers are resilient, they will get through this and they will ensure our community gets to the other side of this pandemic," he said.
"I urge all residents, all community leaders to visit my website scottbuchholz.com.au or to contact my office or Ros Bates office for a nomination form, and nominate a volunteer or someone in their community for the contribution they're making.
"I look forward to receiving many nominations and hope to catch up with those award recipients later in the year," Mr Buchholz said.
Mr Buchholz said the Wright Community Contribution Awards were open for nomination from now until August 31. A special presentation ceremony will be held for award recipients
