EMERGENCY services responded to reports of a light aircraft crashing into a paddock at Aratula on Sunday.
A Queensland Ambulance spokesman said paramedics, including critical care paramedics rushed to the scene after the alarm went out at 9.51am.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services was also called to assist and a QFES spokesman said firefighters stabilised the aircraft and extricated the pilot from the plane.
Queensland Police said the man in his 60s had flown from Byron Bay and crashed in a paddock near Tarome Road while trying to land his aircraft.
The pilot was taken to Princess Alexandra Hospital by rescue helicopter in a serious but stable with head and spinal injuries.
The man was the only occupant of the plane.
