CHRISTMAS can be a lonely time of year for people isolated from friends and family or struggling financially.
This is why a not-for-profit mental health organisation, A Chance for Change, has organised a free Christmas mini golf event at Hills Golf Club on December 22, the last Sunday before Christmas from 3.30pm.
The event will include free BBQ food and mini golf games with all costs covered by Queensland Rigging Hire.
ACFC ambassador Nathan St Ledger said it was a perfect time for people in tough situations to forget about their troubles for a few hours.
"There is no pressure and nothing for sale," he said.
"If there is a single mum, dad or grant parent who can't afford to do much with their family over the break, then this is a great opportunity to come down and have a round of mini golf and just enjoy the afternoon.
"Someone will come to this event and it will make a difference to them."
There is no need to register for the free event.
ACFC's mantra "speaking up is manning up" sums up their goal to help men confront the stigma of mental health issues.
Their statistics show men account for 75 per cent of all suicides in Australia and that only 13 per cent of men aged 16-24 will seek help when dealing with a mental health issue.
