Queensland govt pledges fast-tracked funding for air-conditioning in Logan, Jordan, Scenic Rim state schools

Every classroom will have air conditioning installed at schools in Greenbank, Jimboomba, Yarrabilba, Park Ridge, Browns Plains, Logan Village and Regents Park.

Scenic Rim state schools in Beaudesert, Boonah and Tamborine Mountain are also included.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said work would start during the summer school holidays to install air-conditioning in classrooms.

"By fast-tracking this funding, work that had been planned in future years can begin now, providing a valuable boost to our economy," Ms Palaszczuk said.

LNP leader Deb Frecklington said the state opposition committed to fund air-conditioning for all Queensland classrooms last year.

"The LNP knows that cool kids are smart kids and our teachers deserve to work in modern conditions," she said.

"It will cost $1.5 billion over two terms, but we think our kids are worth it and we think our teachers are worth it.

Jordan MP Charis Mullen said the funding was good news for 10 schools in her electorate.

"I'd like to acknowledge the fantastic work already done by local P&Cs and school communities in the past to provide air-conditioning in schools," Ms Mullen said.

"This extra government funding will now allow us to build on that great work and continue our measured and fiscally responsible approach.

"It's not only great for students and teachers but also local jobs."

Logan MP Linus Power said he was excited to see six schools in his electorate would benefit from the program.

"Local parents will appreciate their children learning in air-conditioned classrooms, making lessons easier to concentrate in," he said.

"We have been steadily working on our program and taking feedback from the schools and community and prioritising areas that need it the most."
