INCOMING Flagstone State Community College 2020 school captain Joshua Clarke has joined the Cancer Council Queensland's Jimboomba Volunteer Branch and is determined to make a difference.
Jimboomba Volunteer Branch members work to raise awareness of Cancer Council Queensland initiatives and fundraise to help the organisation to invest in cancer research, prevention programs and support services.
Mr Clarke, 16, said the experience helped him grow on a personal level.
"Everyone in the branch puts in so much time, effort and passion into everything they do," he said.
"My school principal passed away from cancer last year and it really hit me.
'Getting involved with the branch is a great way to support locals affected by cancer."
Cancer Council Queensland CEO Chris McMillan said volunteers like Joshua made a valuable contribution to the organisation.
"Volunteering can be an incredibly rewarding experience, and a great way toi make some lasting friendships," Ms McMillan said.
"It doesn't matter if you're young, old, male or female, you can volunteer all year of at just one event - we are grateful for all who take the time to help support our cause."
Mr Clarke called on other young Queenslanders to get involved with their local branch.
"I joined the branch because I am passionate about the cause," he said.
"You also learn so many key skills that you will be able to use in future jobs, such as time management and business skills.
"Because we are a small committee, I have been able to do a bit of everything."
