AN IMAGE of a tethered dead dog unable to reach shade and water in Loganlea was released during a week of scorching temperatures and bushfires.
RSPCA Queensland spokesperson Michael Beatty said he was lost for words at the thought of pet owners leaving their four legged friends to die.
"Despite the warnings and despite the help of the media to relay the warnings, some people still aren't listening," he said.
"A dog can survive for days without food, but in these temperatures, if they don't have shade or can't reach water they'll die.
"A rope or a chain can easily become entangled in furniture or plants and that can be fatal."
RSPCA inspectors are investigating the incident.
This comes one week after Jimboomba VetLove warned residents to protect their pets from suffering heat stress.
Veterinarian Yuki Mak said signs of heat stress included excessive panting, salivation, seizures, drooling, agitation and increased heart rate.
