THE 535 Flagstone to Browns Plains bus route set to open next month should be extended to operate every day of the week, according to a public transport lobby group.
Earlier this month, State Development Minister Cameron Dick announced the Trailblazer Drive to Grand Plaza bus service would commence on November 18.
"Over the next 10 years the $19.6 million funding agreement will see TransLink progressively introduce more bus services as local demand calls for it."
The bus route is going ahead under a $19.6 million funding agreement with developers Villa World, Mirvac, Peet and Orchard Property Group. Services will initially run from Monday to Friday between 5.30am and 7.30pm, with greater frequency during peak periods to cater for demand.
Rail Back On Track spokesperson Robert Dow called on the state government to provide the funding to allow the bus service to fun seven days per week on an hourly basis.
"Inner Brisbane has high frequency bus services seven days a week, we think it is not unreasonable for outer regions to have at least a low frequency bus service seven days a week," Mr Dow said.
"To get people on public transport, it must be accessible, frequent as commensurate with location and relatively affordable.
"We are now a seven day a week society. Public transport services need to match this cultural shift."
A TransLink spokesperson said it would work with Economic Development Queensland to review services every year.
"A range of costs and factors must be considered when adding services - including extra kilometres, an increase in driver hours, bus fleet requirements, extra fuel, depot impacts and other operational costs."
