FIVE elite Logan skaters hauled three gold medals and achieved several placings at the 2019 World Skate Oceania Artistic Roller Skating Championships earlier this month.
Skate Nation Artistic Roller Skating Club members Simone Sherriff, Oscar White, Natasha Heit, Adrian Pace and Emily Slater, who train at Digi Roller Skating, traveled to Melbourne to compete from October 2 to October 6.
All five needed to finish in the top four in local, state and national championships to qualify for the Oceania title.
Oscar White, 14, claimed two gold medals after dominating the Cadet Men figures and solo dance competitions and won two gold medals.
Dream team skaters Adrian Pace and Emily Slater joined forces to win gold in the junior pairs dance competition.
The duo, both aged 17, repeated their award winning routine of lifts, jumps rotations and complex moves in front of a local crowd at the Digi Roller Skating Club, Hillcrest, on October 24.
It took six months for the two skaters to master their winning performance.
Slater also contested the junior solo dance competition and placed fourth.
Natasha Heit, 15, placed fourth in cadet freeskating and fifth for the cadet solo dance competition.
Artistic roller skating newcomer Simone Sherriff did a remarkable job to place fourth in the Masters figures competition.
Digi Roller Skating coach Madonna O'Brien said success at the Oceania level opened the door for skaters to compete on the world stage.
"Simone is only new to the sport and has done artistic skating for 12 months," she said.
"The Masters competition is very big and very competitive, there are a lot of skaters in that grade...she has done a remarkable job.
"Next year they can move on to the big leagues against countries like Italy, USA and Portugal," she said.
To compete at Oceania level, the five skaters train three or four times a week and balance different disciplines.
Coach O'Brien said skaters were already preparing for upcoming competitions next year.
"This is a year round sport with no down time other than two weeks off during Christmas," she said.
"Our next event will be in March next year, they need to start new routines and learn new skills."
Most of the skaters who reached Oceania level were introduced to the sport through the Club's Learn to Skate program for juniors.
The program runs from 4pm to 5pm every Thursday at Digi Roller Skating Club, 40-44 Johnson Road, Hillcrest.
