THE under 15 Jimboomba Redbacks girls enter the AFL season grand final as unbackable favourites after a dominant show of strength in their semifinal clash on Sunday.
Semifinal rivals, Wilson Grange, played hard during the first half of the game and Jimboomba only led by only one kick at half-time.
Jimboomba's confidence grew in the second half of the game as their lead blew out to 26 points at the end of the third quarter.
At full time, the Redbacks emerged victorious 33-1.
Assistant Coach Fred Meddings said it was a coach's dream to watch the team apply their skills under pressure.
"Knowing when to go and when not to but as a team they executed this skill well," he said.
"All this amounts to nothing if we don't take it to another level in the last game of the year
The crucial game marked the 50th match for key player Teagan Dare.
Morningside and Wilston Grange will compete in a preliminary final game to determine who fill face Jimboomba in the grand final.
Under 12
ONLY two points seperated Jimboomba from Calamvale in a high pressure qualifying final at Victoria Point over the weekend.
Calamvale took an early lead and kicked two goals within minutes.
The Redbacks scored a goal in the first quarter but trailed 7-18 at quarter time.
Both sides scored goals at crucial moments during the second quarter as Calamvale led 30-16. The half-time break worked wonders for the Redbacks as their relentless approach narrowed the gap to 31-27 in favour of Calamvale going into the final quarter.
Jimboomba briefly took the lead in the final quarter, but a two late goals helped Calamvale get over the line 44-42.
Jarrett Wilson was named player of the week for doing a lot of heavy lifting for the team. Midfielder Toby Muller and goal scorers Kaden Griffiths and Kobie Cunningham were also strong performers.
The under 12s remain in the finals and are hopeful of returning to play Calamvale.
Seniors
THE Jimboomba Redbacks seniors were knocked out of the AFL finals in a preliminary clash against Maroochydore.
It was a disappointing finish for Jimboomba, who were consistently second on the ladder behind the Park Ridge Pirates.
The Park Ridge Pirates remain favourites to win the grand final.
The Redbacks did not go down without a fight as goal scorers Bryce Tomlinson, Jacob Guise and Julian Mandahl guided the team to 28 points. Maroochydore won with 43 points.
Jimboomba's under 12, 13 and 17 teams were defeated in their semi-final games but will progress to preliminary finals due to their places on the season ladder.
The under 17 girls lost to Calamvale 14-33 and the under 13 side were defeated by Kedron 21-44.
The under 13 Redbacks face Sandgate at Kedron on Friday night.
On Sunday, the under 12s will take on Coorparoo White at Ferny Grove and the under 17 girls will challenge Calamvale at Sandgate.
