POLICE Minister Mark Ryan was in Beaudesert today as the state government announced it was delivering on its promise and planning was well underway for the new police station to be built in Anna Street.
The minister was joined by Beaudesert police officers Natalie Cole, Andrew Robinson and Leon Marshall as well as Chief Superintendent Ben Marcus as Mr Ryan visited the police station for the first time and discussed the blueprints for new facility with the local constabulary.
Beaudesert officer-in-charge senior sergeant Leon Marshall said the staff were excited to see the plans.
"It will be much bigger than what we have now, we will have the holding cells inside and better technology," he said.
"The timeline is still flexible but we are looking to move into temporary accommodation early next year while the building takes place.
"The court house will operate as usual during that time."
Mr Ryan said the current police station, which now accommodates 23 officers but was originally built to house 12, would be demolished to make way for a new state of the art structure with enough room for 55 officers.
He said it would also come with RFID technology which allowed stations to monitor equipment.
"It uses scanning technology so instead of each officer having to sign out every single piece of equipment every day, the equipment is automatically signed out and in," he said.
