COMMUNITY pressure has paved the way for two ambulance stations to be built at Yarrabilba and Munruben next year.
The 2019-2020 Queensland state budget allocated $1.2 million towards the construction of the $4.3 million Yarrabilba station expected to be complete in 2020.
Funds have also been set aside to secure land for the $4 million Munruben station on the corner of Chambers Flat Road and the Mount Lindesay Highway.
Construction will begin next year and completion is expected in the first half of 2021.
This followed the lobbying efforts of community advocates like Logan Village nurse Theresa Bott who raised the alarm over local ambulance services shortly after a medical scare involving her six month old baby in 2017.
Ms Bott panicked when she believed her child was choking and realised the closest ambulance station to Logan Village was at Jimboomba.
Logan MP Linus Power thanked Ms Bott for getting the ball rolling on a petition calling for an ambulance station in Yarrabilba.
"We were successful in getting that and kept highlighting the growth in this area," he said.
"Constituents spoke to me about growth concerns in the area and the need for ambulance provisions.
"These two new Ambulance Stations will save lives in our community".
The extra ambulance resources will also be welcome news for a 67-year-old Flagstone man who broke his hip at Red Cedar Crescent and waited two-and-a-half hours in the heat for paramedics to arrive last year.
Mr Power said he hoped the two ambulance stations would prevent cases like this from happening again.
"Ambulances coming towards him were diverted to more urgent cases but he had a tough afternoon on a hot day," he said.
"The (Queensland) Ambulance Service visited him in hospital to apologise and it made them more aware.
"If there are a series of emergencies it is possible that ambulance services could take some time to arrive but having these two new stations in addition to the one at Jimboomba will make services quicker."
The two stations will employ over 30 staff and complement existing stations based at Hillcrest and Jimboomba.
