LOGAN City Council's interim administrator Tamara O'Shea faced questions following the adoption of the 2019-2020 budget.
The budget delivered a below CPI rates increase of 1.49 per cent, concessions for pensioners and a freeze on council's component of water and sewerage charges.
Budget deliberations were already underway when Ms O'Shea was appointed as administrator last month, taking on the responsibilities of the mayor and councilors.
When asked if the timing of the dismissal of the mayor and former councilors caused any disruption to the budget process, Ms O'Shea said she worked hard getting up to speed.
"I did not want to slow the process down...I'm hoping from an external perspective there was no hiccup in our budget process," she said.
"What I did when I came on board was get extensive briefings from staff on the process taken to date and they walked me through the financial position of Logan and I made decisions on where to from there."
Ms O'Shea said it would have been easy for her to have significantly increased rates as she was not seeking election next year.
"That would have given council a huge amount of money but that was a decision I had to work through balancing what we need to make sure council was in a strong fiscal position and keeping rate pressures as low as possible," she said.
Following the dismissal of the mayor and councilors, the council slashed the international travel budget from almost $90,000 last year to $38,520.
When asked why the budget was not cut to zero, Ms O'Shea said it would not have been a responsible decision.
"You need to set aside a small amount of money to accommodate travel needs. Any good corporate citizen has a travel budget and every organisation I've worked in has a travel budget," she said.
