SCENIC Rim MP Jon Krause has called on the Queensland government to tackle congestion issues at Woodhill State School as a truck stop service station development application decision awaits.
The proposal to build the petrol station at Lot 1 of the Mount Lindesay Highway, next to the state school was open to public comment in February this year.
Mr Krause said he had written to the Department of Transport and Main Roads and Education Queensland to consider the potential impacts of the development while there are more kids and cars on the highway.
"The situation at the school would only deteriorate," he said.
"We need the government to work with the community to bust congestion and find longer term solutions to what are very real concerns and I will continue to make representations on behalf of the school and broader community to keep our children and road users safe."
Department of Transport and Main Roads officers recently visited Woodhill State School for a Safe School Travel meeting and delivered road safety materials, high visibility vests for school officers and updated loading zone signs.
A TMR spokesperson said installation of a second left-turn lane and a separate right-turn lane on the Mount Lindesay Highway has been recommended to the State Assessment and Referral Agency.
"We assess development applications based on traffic engineering and road safety requirements," the spokesperson said.
"SARA then collate recommendations from various state government departments.
"Logan City Council will make a final decision on this application."
Woodhill resident Monica Hambleton told the Jimboomba Times in February that the truck stop petrol station would result in a logistical traffic nightmare during school pick up and drop off times.
"This quiet school will turn into something else. It won't be a quiet little school anymore."
