FLAGSTONE'S roundabouts will be safer after Building Better Regions funding was secured to upgrade lighting resources.
Wright MP Scott Buchholz said the Morrison government would invest $240,000 to upgrade lighting at roundabouts on Homestead Drive, including along Poinciana Drive and Coachwood Drive.
"Flagstone is a high growth, priority area and the Morrison Government's Building Better Regions Fund is providing Logan City Council with the capacity to ensure areas such as Flagstone are ready for growth," he said.
"We want to promote healthy, active and safe communities. In order to encourage walking and cycling - to school, to the park, or to the shops - there was a need for better pedestrian lighting."
Logan Cr Trevina Schwarz funded a footpath linking the proposed shopping precinct to Flagstone schools.
Cr Schwarz said lighting upgrades would complement projects she supported locally.
"Scott pointed out that we want to promote the use of local paths and bike ways. By improving lighting, we can encourage local residents to make further use of the existing infrastructure," she said.
The project would install LED lighting with smart controls for energy efficiency and the ability to manage and control lights remotely.
Mr Buchholz is re contesting Wright at the upcoming federal election on May 18.
He will face Katter's Australia Party candidate Matt Tomlinson, Greens candidate Shannan Girard and Independent Innes Larkin and Labor candidate Pam McCreadie.
Mr Buchholz holds Wright with a healthy 9.6 per cent margin.
