TREES cut down from the Cedar Grove waste water treatment plant site will be returned to the community in the form of chairs and tables.
Logan Village Men Shed have received a milled wood donation and $1000 worth of tools from Total Tools and Tex Timbers.
There is sufficient wood to build four or five tables.
Cedar Grove waste water treatment plant site supervisor Darryl Kretschmar said the idea of recycling the wood back into the community was too good to ignore.
"The trees on the wetlands at Cedar Grove were beautiful big trees," he said
"I was out with the supervisor and thought what can we do with these trees? As a team we decided to mill them as tables and give them back to the community."
Cr Laurie Koranski said she was delighted to see a local group build furniture for the benefit of the community.
"Obviously, the waste water treatment plant has been something of a challenge but now we are at a stage where we can get the community involved in a better outcome," she said.
"The trees that were taken down from the site have been re-purposed and will have a new life."
Logan Village Men Shed president Ian Bell said members were looking forward to getting to work.
"The trees were too good to be put through the mulcher so (Logan Water Infrastructure Alliance) approached us to make tables and chairs from them," he said.
Logan Village Men Shed has 40 members who meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8am to 12pm at Steele Road, near the Logan Village Falcons soccer club.
